Vinyl Radio

I recently stumbled across a really cool internet radio-show by the name of Vinyl Junkies on Twitch. The show is hosted by a charming music lover by the name of Sam, who has an extensive collection of all sorts of amazing music on vinyl, with the mission statement of using his show to not only share music that he loves with people from all over the globe, but to ensure that artists get paid the money they deserve for their work. He does this by being a part of Twitch’s DJ program, which uses their music/copyright recognition technology to divert 30% of earnings from subscriptions to the relevant artists being played on a show, essentially allowing the host to manage a fully licenced radio station. Aside from that, he also involves himself with record labels, distributors and independent artists to organise listening parties for their new projects, encouraging his listeners to support the artists and buy their music, whether that be physically or digitally. To tie all off this together, he makes use of Twitch’s chat feature to encourage an ongoing dialogue with listeners about music.

This really inspired me as sharing and talking about music with people is something I’ve always admired. As a result of this I’ve been playing around with the idea of starting up my own show where I can follow a similar mission statement! While I don’t quite have the collection that Sam does (12,000 records!), it’s something I’m always building and have a genuine love for, and I’d really love to be able to share that with people. I’m currently toying with different ideas for interesting camera setups, and have come up with a fair few ‘themes’ for my shows, focusing on different genres, eras and scenes of music that I love. Because this has been incentivising me to build my collection, it’s also allowing me to discover all sorts of music I might not have listened to before!
